Not Just Nuisance Pests
Got a problem with fungus gnats and shore flies? Then check out the May/June issue of the OFA Bulletin, available to members online in the myOFA section of the OFA web site (www.ofa.org/myofa).

Detailing diseases and other production problems caused by these winged pests, Dr. Raymond Cloyd shows just how important it is to control both fungus gnats and shore flies before they become an infestation. A year-round problem, both insect pests can be controlled through sanitation, environmental adjustments, and chemical applications.

The first step, though, is identifying the enemy and understanding the problems it can cause.

Are you a dedicated blog reader or do you see them as a waste of time?

Regardless of your opinion about blogs, "Making Cents of Green Industry Economics" by Dr. Charlie Hall never fails to provoke, educate, and intrigue. In the past he has covered everything from drought to immigration reform to pricing. His philosophy: "In an industry where margins are getting tighter and tighter, a few cents per pot/plant can make a world of difference!"

Now, Charlie is launching a new webinar series that is designed to assist green industry firms in making better (more informed) managerial decisions in the midst of an economic downturn that is turning markets upside down.

The 45-minute webinars are free, and the next one, "Marketing Green" is on May 12. You can register for the webinar series or check out some of Charlie's past blog entries at http://ellisonchair.blogspot.com.
